Nikki Van Dusen, MA
President, NikComm Inc.
Nikki is an award-winning PR professional with 15 years of experience planning and implementing strategic public relations and integrated marketing and communications, particularly in the area of stakeholder awareness-raising and behavioural change management. She is a talented facilitator and project manager, with more than 8 years’ experience managing interdisciplinary teams on both ongoing communication projects and short- to medium-term campaigns.
For the last several years, she has specialized in managing corporate communications and digital media teams and projects, and helped many complex organizations with multiple stakeholders "join the conversation" strategically, including Alberta Catholic Social Services, EPCOR, The Government of Alberta, and the University of Alberta.
Her successes include co-authoring the Government of Alberta’s social media policy, co-planning, co-implementing, and running the Alberta @ Vancouver 2010 online presence; and growing EPCOR’s social presence from nearly non-existent to Alberta utility industry leader in less than two years. Whether dealing with a troublesome photo of a UK beach or sharing a recipe for squirrel stew in a power outage, she's seen her fair share of crises on social media and helps organizations mitigate risk of participating while still engaging like humans.
In addition to social media, Nikki has a strong portfolio of strategic planning and project management successes, including researching and developing multi-year communication plans, and planning and implementing complete website overhauls for University of Alberta Research Services Office, University of Alberta International, and EPCOR.
She has a Master's Degree in Communications and Technology in which she examined making websites more accessible to audiences whose first language is not English. She is particularly passionate about developing usable, audience-focused websites with a emphasis on social content strategy.
When she's not working, she nerds out with science facts and science fiction, video games, trail running and Japanese stationery. Also, she herds a puppy named Molly.
